Volunteer in Hartford
Want to support the community, make new friends and get active? Find out about volunteering opportunities in and around Hartford.
At Hartford Parish Council, we are always keen to welcome more people to our wonderful team of volunteers. You could help to:
- Run our social events, such as Picnic in the Park and the Christmas Lights event
- Contribute your ideas to Hartford Parish Council plans
- Look after green spaces in the village
- Keep our bus stops clean and tidy
- Deliver newsletters and much more!
We are also keen to connect with people who have experience in town and country planning, to assist with our Neighbourhood Plan review.
If you’d like to volunteer with Hartford Parish Council, please contact us. All of our ten councillors are volunteers too, so you could consider joining the Council at the next election.

- In our Community life section, you will find lots of sports, arts and other social clubs based in Hartford. Many of these clubs are keen to find new volunteers to help run the clubs – for example by helping to organise social events, act as Treasurer and more.
- 1st Hartford Scouts are looking for volunteers to help inspire and support our young people – and you don’t need to make a regular commitment (unless you’re able). Do you love cooking, photography, exploring the great outdoors, or arts and crafts? Sharing your hobbies and interests can go a long way in helping the group to learn, grow, and have fun. If interested, please contact GSL@1stHartfordScouts.co.uk. No prior experience is necessary.
- Hartford Civic Society runs activities and projects which benefit the village. You can join their litter picks, social walks, day trips, play the village lottery, help maintain their flower baskets, and more.
- Hartford NSPCC volunteers organise community events to raise money for the NSPCC. Events include an Open Garden day, a music concert and more. Contact hartfordyoungnspcc@outlook.com to join the team.
- Marshall’s Arm runs from the bottom of Stones Manor Lane to the River Weaver. A group of volunteers – called Marshall’s Army – helps to maintain and manage the nature reserve. To find out more about volunteering, please contact Tim Kirwin on 07543 406968 or tim@wilderthings.co.uk.
- The Highways Volunteering Scheme has been launched by Cheshire West and Cheshire Council (CWAC), and has been trialled to good effect in Tarvin. The initiative works with Town and Parish Councils to improve the look and feel of their communities. It does this by enabling volunteers to undertake minor maintenance activities.
How it works: A community (or group of people) identify an area within their town/parish boundary that they wish to work on – typically by clearing overgrowth and reclaiming roadside footpaths, clearing water channels and grips, sign washing, etc. Highways support the community/group by providing hi-vis jackets and equipment such as shovels, spades, waste bags, and by removing any spoils. CWAC also provides Health and Safety advice and insurance cover. The volunteers are ideally community members or community organisations, and a Lead Coordinator is required to co-ordinate activities. See a short video about the scheme below.
If you have identified some work and a Lead Coordinator, please contact the Clerk and state the work your group plans to carry out, the location, any training requirements, etc. Your request will be reviewed by Hartford Parish Council and, where appropriate, an application will be submitted to Highways. Please note – as this is a Cheshire West & Cheshire Council Community Scheme, it is not the responsibility of Hartford Parish Council to identify, organise or co-ordinate the work, the group or Lead Coordinators.
For any safety / maintenance issues with roads or pavements, please report the issue directly to Cheshire West and Chester Council.
