Energy support

With energy prices high, it can be difficult to manage bills and stay warm – however, there are many organisations that can help. Take a look at some of the local and national support services on offer.

Cheshire West and Chester Council

On the Cheshire West and Chester Council website, you can find out about staying well over the winter, with information about Winter vaccines, warm spaces, energy saving advice and more. There is also information about home energy help, covering topics such as:
  • Energy efficiency and home improvement schemes and grants
  • Guidance to help reduce the amount of energy used in your home
  • Information on what to do if you are struggling to pay for your gas or electricity energy bills.
Residents across Cheshire West and Chester who use heating oil are being encouraged to access financial support as part of the Council’s Crisis and Resilience Fund. The support is available to households using heating oil and is not limited to those receiving benefits.

Citizens Advice Cheshire West

The Citizens Advice Cheshire West ‘Energy Advice Team‘ offers a free telephone or in-person advice service to anyone who wants to find out more about how to manage their energy costs. This service is particularly aimed at households at risk, or in, fuel poverty. The team can advise on topics such as:
  • Eligibility for grants and schemes for financial help with energy bills
  • Tips to reduce consumption
  • Cutting energy costs.

Groundwork

Groundwork’s Get Energy Help website has helpful advice on saving energy and staying warm. Find out how to reduce damp, mould and condensation, save money on your energy bills, and more.

Groundwork also runs a Green Doctor Service. Green Doctors visit people’s homes to show them how to save energy, help resolve billing issues and access other community services. This free, impartial advice is open to people who are living with a disability, physical or mental health issues or dementia, living on a low income or with debt, living in either poor housing conditions or emergency accommodation, in receipt of benefits, aged over 65 or a young person or part of a family containing children under the age of five.
